Doodle Fiction, Manga, Graphic Novel

Similarities and Differences of Doodle Fiction, Manga and Graphic Novel

Literature is important in our society. It is the human's way of entertainment, information relay, and preservation of culture. It is important to everyone because it preserves memories, emotions, knowledge, lifestyle, and etc. Literature has drastically evolved through the times.

Here are some of the qualities and differences of each literary genre. Each of these genres has its own characteristics that have contributed to its popularity.

Doodle Fiction

Doodle fiction is a relatively informal and spontaneous form of visual storytelling that typically involves drawing simple, rough sketches to tell a story. Doodle fiction is often created quickly and spontaneously, and it is not necessarily intended to be polished or professionally produced.

Manga

Manga is a Japanese style of graphic novel that is characterized by its distinctive art style and storytelling conventions. Mangas typically have a serialized format, with individual chapters being released in magazines or collected into tankōbon volumes. They often cover a wide range of genres, including action, romance, comedy, and horror.

Graphic Novel is a long-form, fictional work of sequential art. The term graphic novel is often applied broadly, including fiction, non-fiction, and anthologized work, though this practice is highly contested by comics scholars and industry professionals.

Similarities

From what I have read, Doodle Fiction, Manga, Graphic Novel are pretty much similar to one another. All of these genres incorporate drawings, illustration, or graphics in telling a story. Also, each of those three could have not existed without the use of computer or other digital technologies.

Differences in Terms of Structure

Based from what I have read. Doodle Fiction uses styles of drawing and handwritten graphics to tell a story. Doodle Fictions also follow a novel or story book style of storytelling. While both Manga and Graphic Novel uses panels to arrange and separate the different scenes in their narratives but Manga is read against the conventional way of reading which is from left to right that makes it different to Graphic Novel.

Differences in Terms of Elements

Based from what I have observed. Doodle Fiction's element revolves in the handwritten text and doodles that are part of history. Elements in Doodle Fiction provides comedic or humorous elements on the story. Manga, on the other side, uses a Japanese traditional art style to draw the graphics. Elements in manga always pertain to the Japanese culture, people, and environment. Graphic Novel uses a very Americanized art style and drawing. It's elements and themes can also come from different countries.
